Sweet & Tangy Homemade Dressing

Looking for a simple, homemade salad dressing that’s just the right mix of sweet and tangy? This strawberry poppy seed dressing comes together in minutes and adds a fresh burst of flavor to any salad. I made this one using a jar of strawberry jam from my summer batch, and it turned out to be the perfect way to brighten up greens straight from the garden. A little honey, a splash of vinegar, and some poppy seeds for crunch — it’s light, cheerful, and kid-friendly too!

Perfect Salad Pairings

This dressing is perfect for spinach or mixed green salads topped with fresh berries, sliced almonds, cucumbers, or goat cheese. It’s especially lovely with summer produce like strawberries, blueberries, and cucumbers — but it also adds a fun twist to everyday lunches. I like to serve it over a bed of greens with grilled chicken for an easy family dinner or pack it into a jar for a make-ahead lunch.

Storage Tips & A Sweet Note

This dressing stores beautifully in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Keep it in the fridge and give it a good shake before each use. It’s best enjoyed within 5–7 days, though it rarely lasts that long at our house!

The first time I made this, my daughter declared it was the best dressing ever. She even asked for more strawberries just so she could keep dipping them in what was left on her plate. I love that it’s made with jam and honey — no table sugar needed — and still gets a big thumbs up from the kids!

Strawberry Poppyseed Dressing

  • 4 tbs Strawberry jam (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 1/2 tbs Apple cider vinegar

  • 1/3 cups Light olive oil (or avocado oil)

Method

  1. In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the strawberry jam, vinegar, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and honey until smooth.
  2. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking to emulsify.
  3. Stir in poppy seeds and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or tang if needed by adding honey or jam.
  5. Store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 1 week. Shake well before each use.
